Born on August 16, 1958 to the name of Madonna Louise Ciccone in Bay City, Michigan, Madonna is an iconic singer, actress, songwriter and successful entrepreneur. She has sold over three million albums globally, making her one of the most powerful and influential women in the world. She was also included in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s top selling female recording artist of all time.
Her bravado in the music industry has made her extremely popular and a cultural personality as she boldly sang her heart out with innovative music creations, diverse performances, and never before seen stunts that only she can pull off. Many critics have continuously commended her fearless assumptions of interpreting music in her own, unconventional style.
She started her career early, back in 1977 as she moved in New York City so she could enroll at a prestigious dance school. She performed in several musicals such as the Breakfast Club and Emmy. It was in 1983 when she finally released her first album. It gave her a modest result but it was the following albums that made her into a superstar icon. Songs like Like a Virgin, Vogue, Papa Don’t Preach, Frozen, Like a Prayer, Music, 4 Minutes and Hung Up hit number one on Billboard charts in the United States and United Kingdom. Her music videos have become a household favourite on MTV. She was also inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in 2012, she was considered as the Greatest Woman in Music according to VH1.
