Sir Elton Hercules John, CBE is a notable and popular English singer, composer, songwriter, pianist and actor. He was born on March 25, 1947 to the name of Reginald Kenneth Dwight in Pinner, Middlesex. He went to school in Reddiford School, Pinner Wood Junior School, and Pinner County Grammar School but decided to quit school when he was 17 to further pursue his dreams in the music business.
Pursuing a career in the music industry has certainly worked out well for him. Together with Bernie Taupin, his long-term lyricist, they have created over 30 albums. He has been in the business for over 40 years, selling an estimated 250 million albums. This has made him one of the best selling music artists of all time. His song Candle in the Wind that was dedicated to Princess Diana following her sudden death has sold more than 33 million copies in the global market. It is also the best selling Billboard Chart single in recorded history.
He has a lot of achievements that include 50 songs in the top 40 hits, 9 top one hits, 6 Grammy Awards, 4 Britain Awards, 1 Tony Award, 1 Golden Globe Award, and 1 Academy Award. He was inducted in 1994 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Queen Elizabeth II bestowed Knighthood upon him for his charitable services and exemplary services through music. Rolling Stone magazine placed him in number 49 out of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Times.
