Also known as the Bad Boys from Boston and America’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band, Aerosmith is an American rock band that has sold and continues to sell millions of albums worldwide. They started in Boston, Massachusetts back in the early 70’s when the group’s guitarist Joe Perry and bassist Tom Hamilton hooked up with vocalist Steven Tyler, Joey Kramer on drums, and another guitarist Ray Tabano. A year later, Brad Whitford replaced Ray and the group finally began their legendary tours of rock and roll all over the world.
Aerosmith is one of the pioneers that bravely created contemporary music like never before. Their unorthodox ideas basically consist of combining pop with hard rock music, laced with heavy metal and R&B or rhythm and blues. This may sound suicidal and crazy but it was because of their guts to play this new kind of music that they became famous in everything that they did. It was in ’72 when they had an official contract in Columbia Records. This was the start of releasing a series of multi-platinum albums that crossed the seven continents, even the non-English speaking nations. Because of this instant fame, they have been labeled as hard rock superstars.
However, money and fame almost equal to substance abuse and alcoholism and these are the reasons why Joe Perry and Brad Whitford decided to leave the band due to their concerns of the group’s growing addiction to drugs. Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay replaced them but they have never reached their previous platinum successes again, only faring to gold. Today, they have sold over 150 million records worldwide.
